Visit Hastings Mobile
Adams County CVB | Hastings, NE
We worked with the Adams County CVB to develop a mobile website, giving visitors the power to explore Hastings from the palms of their hands.
When they approached us, the Adams County Convention and Visitors Bureau already had a full-featured website that was nearly unusable on a smart phone. We helped them develop a solution that would give Hastings visitors easy, portable access to restaurant, lodging and attraction information.
One Site, Two Views
The key to this project was developing a site that was easy for the client to manage and update. So instead of building a separate mobile site, we utilized the latest in device detection and responsive design techniques to make the current site – visithastingsnebraska.com – mobile-optimized.
Simply put, this means the client had only one site to manage. Load the site on a desktop or laptop and users see the full version; look at the same page on a smart phone and get a mobile-optimized experience. This technique also allowed us to reuse the existing restaurant and logding databases, eliminated any duplication of data.
Finger-friendly Design
Clicking a mouse button and tapping a screen are two completely different experiences, which is why we made sure the this site was constructed specifically for a touch-screen interface; buttons are large, navigation is clearly marked, and everything is easy to 'tap'. We even made phone numbers and addresses interactive, making it easy to call or locate your destination.
QR Code and URL
For promotion and easy access to the mobile site, we set up a QR code and special URL. Displayed at local tourist spots on window stickers and flyers, the code was accompanied by the shortened-URL – HastingsNE.mobi – making it easy to key in the address for those unable to scan the code.
